Niwa: A Fusion of Comfort and Futuristic Design

The inspiration for Niwa came from a simple yet challenging brief: to design a comfortable chair with simple lines, made of die-cast aluminum. The result is a chair that not only withstands external elements due to its aluminum construction but also offers profound comfort through its intriguing, futuristic form.

Niwa stands out with its unique properties. It is a die-cast chair that pays homage to classical geometry with its sober lines. A significant amount of work was put into ensuring its comfort, resulting in a chair that is as pleasing to sit on as it is to look at.

The realization of Niwa was achieved through cast aluminum technology. With dimensions of 45x45x80, the chair is a perfect fit for any outdoor setting. Its design tags include cast aluminum, outdoor chair, chair design, and comfortable chair, all of which accurately represent its essence.

Niwa, which means garden in Japanese, is a chair with very simple shapes, reflecting the sober geometries often found in Japanese gardens. This design project, which spanned from January 2015 to February 2016, was a challenge to create a completely die-cast aluminum chair. The result is a seat for the exterior, consisting of simple geometric lines.

The design of Niwa was born from the desire to simplify the outdoor chair, both from a formal and productive view. The formal simplification took geometry as its theme, aiming to represent zen gardens with a series of parallel lines. This resulted in a very elementary form that is balanced and almost stark. The product is made up of a pressurized aluminum molding that forms the structure on which the legs, made of aluminum, are mechanically fixed.

Niwa's excellence in design has not gone unnoticed. In 2019, it was awarded the Platinum A' Furniture Design Award, a prestigious accolade that recognizes world-class, exceptional, and highly innovative designs that contribute to societal wellbeing. This award is a testament to Niwa's defining aesthetics and its contribution to advancing the boundaries of art, science, design, and technology.
